Comments:

I was surprised to be called by N0QY in ND on 10 meters a couple minutes before
the contest started so I asked him to hang around to be my first Q there. He
was the only ND I worked on any band. I also worked MT, CO, NE, WA, BC and CA
on 10.

I spent the first few hours trying to make something happen on 10 and 15 but
the band conditions were pretty dismal. 20 was also really slow until the 0200
hour when I had my best hour of 140 Q's. I didn't want to leave 20 because of
the good rate, but with only 3 hours left I had to get some mults on 40, 80 and
160.

I worked every mult I heard on 160, 80 and 40. On 160 I didn't hear anything
east of the Rockies. On 80 I heard very few stations that were not on the west
coast. East coast stations were much weaker than normal on 80.

Thanks to Dave/W6NL and Barb/K6BL for the use of the station and everything
they did to set it up. The station performed well and Dave has gone to the
limit in making an ergonomic operating position and SO2R set-up that simplify
the operating.

SO2R was of limited use, mainly in the early hours when I could CQ on 10 or 15
and S&P or dual-CQ on 20. Once I'd worked the strong stations most of the
signals were so weak that I couldn't hear many of them while listening to two
radios. The low-band noise (S9 on 160) made SO2R ineffective and I shifted to
one-radio mode to get a better rate.

As always, thanks to everyone for the Q's and for all the QSYs.

73,
-Mike, N7MH
