Very average conditions on 29th, and this time the proven tri-bander resonated
at 200kHz high on 20m. Lots of mutterings heard on 1863khz, but no qso's made.
On 30th, propagation seemed back to normal, but even with a better 40m antenna
this year, qso's on that band were way down. Worked just 4 US stations from the
1 and 2 districts !!
It was lot's of fun, and spending a week in the tropics was quite a change.
Logistics, the original flight from Sydney to Darwin was cancelled when the QRM
in YI land started, and the return flight was forced down with an airconditioner
fire in Alice springs for 5 hours. Sitting with a VE7 licensed pilot who flies
for the UN in 4W6 helped, but it was nervous and uncomfortable when all the
smoke alarms went off in the 767.
I'm home and wife is happy.
