Comments:

I was looking forward to WRTC2002/IARU contest and then the Thursday before, my
boss sent me to Salt Lake City on business. My first call was to the tallest
hotel to request a high room with a balcony----got the 20th floor on the East
facing NE part of the building. I had planned on using a mobile antenna--a
Spider with resonators for 40-20-15-10 but it wouldn't load. So I hung wires
off the balcony for 15 and 20 and used the Spider shaft to hold the wires away
from the building! Eventually got the SWR down low enough that the FT-817 would
load to full five watts.

This was a tough contest made worse by poor band condx (including loud QRN).

Enjoyed it despite Murphy and an extremely high "degreee of difficulty" caused
by the law of unintended consequences! I had hoped to use the home station with
Yagis ---- believe me wires 200 feet above the ground were no substitute for the
Force 12 at home!!!! But QRP and wires from a hotel room are far, far better
than the alternative which was not participating in the contest at all.

73 de alan, sign me W6RCL-port-7, with shack 200 feet above the Great Salt
Lake!!!
