     Comments:
A whole lot of fun with a whole lot of firsts for me. Several
new personal bests as well. For instance, best last 10 rate...261.
Best last 100 rate...97. Best hour...86, followed by two hours of
     88. The 20 meter total far surpassed my expectations.
I was elated by my effort until...

I heard from a non-contesting friend across town that I was not
hearing half the people who were answering my CQs. There was
a lot of noise at my shack and I apologize to those I did not hear.
Also, having started with 40 meters in the early evening, I took an
ill-fated break to get some dinner. When I came back, the noise
problem had reared its ugly head and I could never duplicate the
rate success I had before the time off. And, I realized after the
contest was done that my mult total was quite low for the number
of contacts made. Need to work on moving mults.
        Still, I look on these
shortcomings as learning experiences. With my plans of skybourne
aluminum set for this summer, I should be able to continue my
improvement and start posting some respectable scores.
Some closing notes. 10 meters was wide open to the east coast from
here in the mid afternoon and nobody was on. Had a very nice chat with
VE7CFD before the start. It was fun to have a leisurely QSO with one
who you never get to say more than four or five words to in a contest
situation. And, most importantly, I would like to thank K5OT for some
very complimentary remarks during our first contact. I was so flattered,
and so caught off guard, that I sputtered a weak "thanks". So let me
take this opportunity to say, "Thank you Larry! I really appreciated
your remarks and appreciate your class as a contester and a
     gentleman."
Now, if I can just work on my accuracy for the sprints. I can't
even believe how many Qs I lost in my first effort. cu then

I, by virtue of my statement below, have taken part in the

1998 NCJ NORTH AMERICAN QSO PARTY on 01/17/1998

conscientiously applying my most ethical interpretation of the
     published rules for this contest.
