Comments: Over the last few months, K4OJ, WC4E, AE4MH and myself,
have been helping Dan, K1TO, assemble his new station here in Florida.
Dan and I discussed maybe doing a multi-op for SS, from his partially
completed station, and decided to try something, along with K4OJ and
AE4MH. Since none of us are really SSB ops, we thought it might be more
fun to work SS as a multi-single. The Thursday before SS, I learned,
that K1TO and K4OJ "conspired", and made the decision to attempt running
2 Multi-Single operations from Dan's QTH! We finished up some last
minute antenna work Saturday, and began SS running 2 seperate stations
-- which accounts for the "QRM" some stations reported hearing in the
background (OJ is LOUD!) -- sorry about that! K4OJ and K1TO floated
between the 2 stations, while we kept them both up and running
simultaneously (on different bands). My first experience as a multi-op
(other than Field Day), high towers, big antennas, and high power! Dan
and OJ kept saying "Run, run, run" and "Make a hole", but my low-power
tendencies kept telling me to do some S&P'ing, or move to a less crowded
band. Did do a little S&P work, and it was nice to find VY1JA calling
CQ on 20 with no takers, for the "sweep"! Sorry to those stations I
just couldn't pull out of the noise ... my ears are trained for CW ...
SSB still needs some work! Did come to realize, big antennas, high
towers, and high power, are a LOT different (more fun?) than a low
tribander, wires, and 100 Watts! Thanks to Dan, for letting me feel
like one of the "big boys". We had such a blast, we just might try it
again next year!
